Introduced in 1984, the Palace on Wheels has 14 inter connected saloons, each having four double bedded rooms with attached bathrooms. Each saloon has a seating lounge, where passengers can get together, or enjoy a cup of coffee, besides a pantry with a dedicated attendant, which provides beverages and refreshments to the passengers. The saloons, named after provinces of Rajasthan, were once the personal railway coaches of the erstwhile rulers of the princely states of Gujarat and Rajputana, the Viceroy of British India and the Nizam of Hyderabad. The bedrooms are equipped with comfortable beds, spacious wardrobes, as well as all modern amenities for a comfortable stay.
The train has two lavishly designed restaurants, Maharaja and Maharani, where the accompanying chefs serve a delicious and mouth watering choice of Indian, including Rajasthani, Continental and Chinese cuisines. Attached to the dining cars is a well-stocked Bar and Lounge, serving finest International and Indian wine, liquor and spirits.

Schedule and Tariff
The seven day incredible journey of the ‘Palace of Wheels’ starts every Wednesday evening at 1800 hrs from Safdarjung Railway Station, New Delhi, and ends on the following Wednesday early in the morning at 0730 hrs at the same station. The train runs from September to April every year.
The tariff of ‘Palace on Wheels’ per person per night ranges from US $ 390 (triple occupancy) to US $ 575 (single occupancy) for the months of September and April, and from US $ 520 (triple occupancy) to US $ 770 (single occupancy) from October to March.
