History

Triund trek is accessible throughout the year, except during January and February. Heavy snowfall during these months cut off some sections of the trekking route. The best time to visit Triund is from March to June because of the cozy and comfortable weather and clear views. IMPORTANT INFORMATION : Transport Options (Delhi – Mcleod ganj – Delhi) For travel to Mcleod ganj and back one can choose between air, rail & road. For air travel, the closest airport is the Gaggal DHM, also known as Kangra Airport, or Dharamsala Airport and is well connected to Delhi and other parts of the country by Kingfisher Red. There are frequent Public Transport buses including Volvos available from Delhi to Mcleodganj that cost about Rs. 550 – 900 per person. These buses depart from Majnu ka tilla every 30 mins. or so and take about 12 hrs to cover the distance. The same is also applicable on the return journey. A private vehicle could also be arranged for if you require the same. Triund trek Weather Details : Summer in Mcleod ganj extends from March to June when the temperature variation is recorded to be ranging between 23°c and 27°c. Mercury sometimes reaches up to 38°c but never goes beyond that. During winters the temperature can drop to -1° and the maximum temperature hardly goes up to 20°c. Triund is a small hill station in the Kangra district in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. The Triund Hill Station is a part of Dharamkot. Triund is at the foot of the Dhauladhar ranges and is at a height of 2,828 m.

Triund is a large land of green grass and pasture like. One can see the mighty Dhauladhar ranges just above the eyes. The ridge elevation is between 2,810 and 2,875 meters. It is a one-day trek approx. 10 kilometers (one way) from Mcleod Ganj bus stand and under 6 kilometers (one way) from Galu temple near Dharamkot. The trail is rocky and cuts in steps at some places. From Galu Devi temple there is an unambiguous byway that goes through a beautiful forest of oak and deodar trees. This stretch through the woods is known as 22 Curves, because of the 22 switchbacks one has to walk through to reach Triund.

Transportation and connectivity

The road transport of the near is a Pathankot to Gaggal then to Dharamsala and New Delhi to the Chandigarh and then to Kangra and finally Dharamsala.

The nearest railway stations on the Shimla–Kangra of narrow gauge line are at Jassur (Nurpur, Kangra, and Himachal Pradesh) and Parlor railway stop near Nagrota (about 20 km south of Dharamsala). The nearest railhead of the broad gauge is at Pathankot (about 85 km).

Triund Campsite

Triund Campsite is a base camp and acclimatization point for trekkers climbing the Inderahara point in Mt. Dhauladhar. For trekkers, the view of the evening sky from Triund is a good enough reason to pitch a tent here for the night. The length of the trek makes it apt for a weekend.

Climate

Triund is inaccessible in January and February due to heavy snowfall. The best time for the trekking is from March till May in the first part of the year and September till that the December in the second half of the year. It is Rainy in June and July but still trekking is possible the meadow is lush green presenting out of this world vista.

Triund Temperature: Temperature is pleasant During Spring and Summer (Generally vary between 5 degrees to 25 degrees Celsius. During winter (December- February) night temperature can plunge down to -9 degrees.

Distance between Delhi and Triund: 500 km by Road. Regular overnight Volvo buses are available from Delhi.

Triund Weather: Generally sunny in the day. Triund weather is very enjoyable throughout the year. In winter due to plunging temperature, it feels really chilly at the night. Triund Trek detail Itinerary

Day-1: Arrival and trek starts from Bhagsu Nag-Triund(2875 m) at 9 AM

You can start your trek from Mcleodganj. Reach Bhagusu Nag and then Start hiking from Bhagsu Nag. Walking through the dense forests of Oak, Rhododendron, and deodar is an ethereal experience. It is an alpine meadow overlooking the snow-capped peaks of Dhauladhar. On the other side, you can see the breathtaking view of the Kangra Valley. After dinner and star gazing at the beautiful mountain lodge, we will rest for the night.

Day-2 : Triund to Bhagsu Nag

Wake up early to see the sunrise through the mighty mountains and the beautiful Kangra Valley. After having breakfast start walking downhill. It will take 4 to 5 hours to reach Bhagsu Nag village. En-route cover Lahesh cave. You will come across Bhagsu Waterfall. The trek will end here and we start your return journey to McLeodganj.

Reason 1: One of the best view of the Dhauladhar Himalayan range

For a group of adventurous friends, the Himalayan sojourn is always irresistible due to its tranquility, magnanimity, and vastness. Triund trek is not at all grueling and demanding in nature. It takes approx. 4 hours for an inexperienced trekker to complete the Trek, which starts from Bhagusu. You can stopover at different places of the trail and take snapshots in this Himalayan heaven. Basically, the Triund trek starts from Mcleodganj and it takes 4-6 hours of uphill hiking to trek to Triund hill.

Triund trek Season:

Trek to Triund in January or February is not possible generally as chances of heavy snowfall are there. The best time for the Triund trek is from April to November. Though the temperature can plunge below zero degrees anytime and snowfall may happen in March or April too, the Triund trek gives you the best experience from March onward.
